The ICOMOS Advisory Committee provides expert guidance on complex heritage conservation issues. It supports policy development, evaluates conservation strategies, advises on site nominations, and ensures that scientific and technical knowledge is integrated into decision-making. The committee plays a key role in shaping national heritage standards in alignment with international frameworks.
✅ Key Tasks:
- Provide expert advice on conservation strategies for monuments, landscapes, and intangible heritage.
- Support the development of national heritage policies and guidelines.
- Assist in preparing nominations for national and international heritage lists (e.g., UNESCO).
- Promote best practices in heritage management, restoration, and interpretation.
- Evaluate technical aspects of conservation and restoration projects.
- Organize specialized training and workshops for heritage professionals.
- Conduct research and documentation to support policy-making and site evaluation.
- Participate in international dialogue on emerging issues in heritage conservation (e.g., climate change, post-conflict recovery).
- Collaborate with institutions, experts, and other ICOMOS committees globally.
- Review and contribute to Cultural Heritage Impact Assessments (CHIA) for development projects.
